Is WORSHIP Your First Response?

Happy New Year to you! This morning I was reading the first chapter of Job and the accounts of that story gave me my first lessons for 2013.

You know Job’s story (if not, read it here). He was “perfect and upright” and God blessed him bountifully. God even said this about Job: “there is no one on earth like him”. Imagine that for a moment: a man literally like none other on the face of the earth and God was proud of that!

After Satan slithered his way into the presence of God with the angels, God himself offers Job to Satan. Someone might think: God must not have liked Job too much! But that could not be further from the truth. It was actually an honor for God to present Job up for Satan to attempt to destroy. Notice I said attempt because God had one requirement: Satan could not lay a finger on Job.

Lesson 1:
Regardless of the hell that is breaking out around you and in your life, God will never allow Satan to lay a finger on you! “Stuff” may go; jobs may be lost; even people may leave your life – but God will ALWAYS protect you. He will never allow Satan to lay a finger on you. Now that’s good news.

Lesson 2:
No matter what you face on your job, in your marriage, with your children, or any other life-situation, your first response must be to worship God! Look again at Job 1:20: “At this time, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship”.

Lesson 3:
Despite how bad any circumstance may be, you must never sin by blaming God. We may never know – like Job – what is happening behind-the-scenes. God is likely preparing us for something even greater than we could ever imagine. The devil does not “sneak up” while God’s back is turned. God is involved in every test that we undergo and He has established preset limits beyond which Satan cannot go.

When you’re faced with unpleasant situations, what is your first response? Our trials can make us bitter or they can make us better! Join me and become like Job – let’s make worship our first response.
